Your Last Trip in Spanish: Speaking Practice (A2)
Speaking practice you do out loud — read the situation, take each prompt, and SAY your answer before you open the model one. Nobody's listening; that's the point of the rehearsal.
"¿Qué tal el viaje?" is one of the most common questions in social Spanish — and answering it well is pure A2 grammar: the preterite for what happened (fui, perdí, probé, tomamos) and the imperfect for how things were (era, había, olía, iban). These six prompts walk you through the full story arc: where, what it was like, what went wrong, what you ate, how you moved, whether you'd go back.
Prompt three is the important one. Nobody remembers the itinerary — they remember the disaster that became an anecdote. Telling el desastre with a smile, in the past tenses, is the exact skill that makes people lean in when you talk.
Say each answer before opening the model one, and use YOUR trip — the model answers are a shape, not a script.
Make it real
The phrases for while you're on the trip — hotels, tickets, getting unlost — are in Spanish for travel. Your turn — say it out loud
Out loud: where did you go on your last trip, when, and with whom? Two sentences.
El año pasado fui a Oaxaca con mi hermana. Pasamos una semana allí.
Describe the place — what was it like? Use 'era' and 'había', not a list of facts.
La ciudad era tranquila y muy colorida. Había mercados en cada esquina y olía a café por todas partes.
Tell the one thing that went wrong. Every trip has one — say it in two sentences.
El segundo día perdí el bus a las cascadas. Esperé dos horas y al final compartí un taxi con otros turistas.
What was the best thing you ate? Say what it was and where you tried it.
Lo mejor fue el mole negro. Lo probé en un mercado, en un puesto pequeño donde comían los locales.
How did you get around — and how was the transport?
Caminamos mucho y tomamos colectivos. Eran baratos, pero siempre iban llenos.
Close the story: say if you want to go back and what you want to do next time.
Quiero volver el próximo año. La próxima vez quiero ver la costa y quedarme más días.
