How Much Do Spanish Lessons Cost? Real 2026 Prices
You open three tabs to compare Spanish lessons and get three prices that don't line up: one tutor at $8, a school at $224.99 "per 4 weeks," a platform at $179 a month. Each one is quoted per something different — per lesson, per cycle, per month — and none of them tells you what you will actually spend. This guide puts them side by side in the same units, with every third-party price checked on the platforms' own pages on October 19, 2026.
Two disclosures first. Spanish Fluency Club sells a membership in this same market, so we're one of the options in the tables below, and we'll say who we're not for. And this article covers lessons you take from home. If you're pricing a school abroad, flights and housing included, our guide to what it costs to learn Spanish abroad does that math country by country; if you're still deciding between formats, start with group vs. private Spanish classes.
The Short Answer: Spanish Lesson Prices by Format
Prices checked October 19, 2026.
| Format | Example | Price | Rough cost per class |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tutor marketplace | italki | Each tutor sets a price; italki's pricing guide: typically $4–20 per lesson with community tutors, $10–40 with professional teachers | $4–40 |
| Tutor marketplace | Preply | Each tutor sets a price; filter range $3–$40+ per lesson, average $17 per Preply; first ten recommended tutors: $20–50 per 50-minute lesson | $3–50 |
| 1:1 subscription | Comligo | $30, $25 or $20 per class at 1, 2 or 3 classes a week, billed every 4 weeks | $20–30 (length not stated) |
| Unlimited 1:1 | BaseLang | Real World: $179/month, unlimited private classes. Real World Lite: $99/month, up to one 30-minute class a day | Falls the more you take |
| Group school | Lingoda | Group: $49.99 (4 classes) to $224.99 (32) per 4 weeks. Private: $119.99 (4) to $469.99 (32) | Group ~$7–12.50, private ~$14.70–30 |
| Group membership | Spanish Fluency Club | $20/month flat, 25+ live group classes a week, 7-day free trial | Falls the more you attend |
How we got the marketplace numbers, so you can judge them: for italki, the ranges come from italki's own pricing guide, because the search page shows each teacher's trial lesson price instead (from USD 5 on the first page of Spanish teachers), and a teacher's profile shows a "from" price without saying which lesson length it buys. Check the length before you compare it with an hourly rate. On Preply, the listing shows a price per 50-minute lesson, and the numbers above come from its price filter, its own "average of $17" line, and the first ten tutors it recommended. Marketplace prices move every day as tutors change them: treat these as a snapshot, not a quote.
Why the Price per Lesson Misleads You
The number on the card is the least useful number on the page. Four things change what you really pay:
- Length. A $25 lesson can be 25, 30, 50 or 60 minutes. Preply quotes per 50-minute lesson, Lingoda's classes are 60 minutes, BaseLang's Lite plan caps you at one 30-minute class a day, and Comligo's pricing page doesn't state how long a paid class lasts. Convert to the hour before you compare.
- Trial versus regular price. italki's search results show the trial lesson price, and italki's pricing guide says trials are usually 30 minutes and 30–50% off the teacher's regular rate. Read the teacher's lesson list before you compare.
- Billing cycle. Lingoda and Comligo bill every 4 weeks, not every month. That's 13 charges a year, not 12, so "$144.99 per 4 weeks" is about $1,885 a year, not ~$1,740.
- Currency. Preply showed us prices in Argentine pesos until we switched the currency to USD. If you're abroad, or using a VPN, check the currency before you decide something is cheap or expensive.
What a Month of Spanish Lessons Really Costs
Fluency is a volume game: what moves you forward is hours of speaking per week, kept up for months. So the honest comparison is a month at a rhythm that produces progress. Here's three hours a week — about 12–13 hours a month — priced format by format. The tutor rows are arithmetic at round hourly rates; the rest are the published prices checked on October 19, 2026:
| Option | What 3 hours a week costs |
|---|---|
| Private tutor at $10 an hour | ~$120–130 a month |
| Private tutor at $25 an hour | ~$300–325 a month |
| Lingoda, 16 group classes (60 min) | $144.99 per 4 weeks at regular price ($130.99 with the 10% "save" price shown on the pricing page, first month only) |
| Lingoda, 16 private classes (60 min) | $319.99 per 4 weeks at regular price ($287.99 with the 10% "save" price, first month only) |
| Comligo, 3 classes a week | $240 per 4 weeks (12 classes; class length not stated) |
| BaseLang Real World | $179 a month, however many classes you take |
| Spanish Fluency Club | $20/month, as many of the 25+ weekly group classes as you want |
Two patterns jump out. Per-lesson pricing punishes volume: every extra hour with a tutor or an extra block of Lingoda credits costs more, so the month gets expensive exactly when you start doing what works. Flat pricing rewards it: BaseLang's unlimited plan and a group membership both cost the same whether you show up twice or twenty times, which is why the per-class cost only drops if you actually use them. Neither model is a scam. They just suit different weeks.
The Costs That Don't Show on the Price Tag
Before you pay for anything, check these on the platform's own terms page:
- Cancellation windows. Comligo and Lingoda both use a 72-hour rule: move or cancel a class later than that and it's lost. If your week changes at short notice, budget for lost classes.
- Renewals and expiry. Most plans renew automatically. Lingoda's pricing page says unused class credits roll over; on other subscriptions, unused lessons can expire. Our Preply review explains how Preply's subscription handles them.
- Promos that are always on. Lingoda's "save" prices were up again on October 19, 2026: 15% off the 8-class plans, 10% off the 16-class plans and 5% off the 32-class plans, for new students' first month (none on the 4-class plans). Compare regular prices first, then treat the discount as a bonus, not a reason.
- Trials that need a card. BaseLang's first week costs $1, then $179 a month; Comligo's policy asks for a payment method when you book the free trial. Set a reminder the day you sign up.
Which Kind of Lesson Is Worth the Money for You
Pay for a private tutor if you need targeted work: an exam like the DELE, business Spanish, a pronunciation problem, or one-on-one attention because speaking in front of others freezes you. Marketplaces are the cheapest way in; our italki review and Preply review cover how each one bills.
Pay for a school with a curriculum if you want a syllabus to follow level by level. Lingoda is the clearest example: fixed-length group classes, published prices, and a private option.
Pay for a 1:1 subscription if you want private classes at a fixed weekly rhythm without browsing tutors. Comligo and BaseLang both work this way, with very different pricing models; our BaseLang alternatives guide compares them side by side.
Pay for a group format if what you're short of is speaking hours, not individual correction. Our guides to Spanish conversation practice online and choosing an online conversation group cover what to look for.
Pay nothing yet if you're still at the very start and not sure you'll stick with it. Our guide to learning Spanish for free shows how far free resources go, and where they stop.
Where Spanish Fluency Club Fits — and Who It's Not For
Spanish Fluency Club is a group membership: 25+ live classes a week with native teachers, grouped as beginner, intermediate and upper intermediate (conversation, grammar and pronunciation sessions), for a flat $20/month, starting with a 7-day free trial. You go to the classes that fit your week, as many as you want; the club lives on Skool, where the calendar and the community are.
One member summed up the pricing side better than we could:
Spanish Fluency Club gives me an opportunity to talk and listen in Spanish almost everyday. I only wish there were more classes available on west coast time. The instructors are super friendly and enjoy helping everyone learn. One more positive thought, the price is right. SFC has many classes and no limit to how many you can attend per day or week or month!
— Sarah P, club member
(Her note about West Coast times is fair: check the calendar against your time zone during the trial.)
It's not the right choice if you want one-on-one attention in every class, C1/C2-level work, DELE exam prep, or a textbook curriculum to follow chapter by chapter: our classes go up to upper intermediate, not beyond, and a private tutor or a school will serve those goals better. Plenty of learners combine both: a group for volume, a tutor once or twice a month for precision.
If speaking hours are what you're missing, start the 7-day free trial and see how many classes fit your week.
The Bottom Line
Online Spanish lessons cost anywhere from a few dollars to about $50 per lesson with most tutors, and the cheapest lesson is rarely the cheapest month. Price the rhythm you'll actually keep — hours per week, for months — and check length, billing cycle and cancellation rules before you compare. Do that, and the right format for your budget is usually obvious.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much do Spanish lessons cost per hour?
Online, it depends on the format. On tutor marketplaces, each tutor sets the price: on October 19, 2026, Preply's price filter for Spanish ran from $3 to $40+ per lesson, Preply's own page put the average at $17, and the first ten tutors it recommended charged $20–50 per 50-minute lesson. On italki, the company's own pricing guide puts regular lessons at typically $4–20 with community tutors and $10–40 with professional teachers. At a group school like Lingoda, a 60-minute group class works out to about $7–12.50 at regular price (checked October 19, 2026).
How much does it cost to learn Spanish per month?
What a month costs is set by how many hours you speak, not by the price tag on one lesson. At three hours a week (about 12–13 hours a month), a private tutor at $10 an hour costs roughly $120–130 a month, and one at $25 an hour roughly $300–325. Lingoda's 16-class group plan is $144.99 every 4 weeks at regular price; BaseLang's unlimited private classes are $179 a month; Comligo's three-classes-a-week plan is $240 every 4 weeks (all checked October 19, 2026). Free options exist too, but they rarely give you a teacher.
Are group Spanish classes cheaper than private lessons?
Per class, almost always. On October 19, 2026, Lingoda charged $224.99 for 32 group classes per 4 weeks (about $7 a class) and $469.99 for 32 private classes (about $14.70 a class), with the same 60-minute length. The trade-off is attention: in a private lesson every minute of correction is yours, in a group you share the teacher. Many learners combine the two: a group for speaking volume and an occasional tutor for precision.
How much does Preply cost for Spanish?
There's no single Preply price: each tutor sets their own rate per lesson. On October 19, 2026, Preply's filter for Spanish tutors ran from $3 to $40+ per lesson, the page said the average is $17, and the first ten tutors it recommended charged $20–50 per 50-minute lesson. Preply also shows prices in your local currency by default, so check that it's set to USD before you compare. How the subscription and unused lessons work is covered in our Preply review.
What is the cheapest way to take Spanish lessons?
With a real teacher, the cheapest options per hour are a budget tutor on a marketplace (Preply lists Spanish tutors from $3, and italki trial lessons from USD 5) or a group format, where you split the teacher's time. A group membership with a flat price gets cheaper per class the more classes you attend. Cheapest isn't the same as best value, though: a $5 lesson you take once a month teaches less than a flat monthly plan you use several times a week. Our guide to cheap online Spanish classes compares six options under $100 a month.
